Put up the shutters

水貨客擾民，致各區怨聲四起。抗議遊行時，商店都落閘（lower their shutters）為免損失，生意當然大跌。市民亦不願上街以免捲入衝突。自由行發展至今天如斯田地，當局責無旁貸。

動詞shut解「關閉」，例如shut the gate（關大門）、shut the window（關窗）、shut your eyes（閉上你的眼睛）。這些例子用close（關閉）也可——close the gate / window / your eyes，意思一樣。

動詞shut加上-ter變成名詞shutter，可以籠統指「關閉物」，亦可以指「（商舖的）捲簾鐵門」、「百葉窗」和「（相機的）快門」，總之全部都有shut（關閉）之意。

「商舖落閘」可以說shopkeepers lower / pull down their shutters。落閘可以代表關門大吉，結束業務，英文也有此說法，用put up the shutters。例句：Many small shops have been forced to put up the shutters over the past few years.（在過去的幾年，許多小商店被迫關門大吉。）
